Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd is an English rock band that initially earned recognition for their psychedelic rock music, and, as they evolved, for their progressive rock music. They are known for philosophical lyrics, sonic experimentation, innovative cover art, and elaborate live shows. One of rock music's most successful acts, the group has sold over 200 million albums worldwide and an estimated 74.5 million albums in the United States alone.(more info here)

Chaiyya Chaiyya.....tak caya?

Hindi songs. I am not a fan of Hindi songs. Well...I was when in primary school. Bapak used to buy Hindi records like Kati Patang and Hati Mere Sathi (along with Ismail Hashim the national Quran Musabaqah champion).

So, why this entry about Chaiyya Chaiyya? Well, I've never seen Dil Se. But I saw an American movie Inside Man. Suprise, suprise. Inside Man used the song Chaiyya Chaiyya as its theme song.Yup! The original version for the opening credit and a rap version for the ending credit.

And last Wednesday when watching CSI Miami(yuck!) it had Chaiyya Chaiyya as the opening song.

Here I have put the songs used both in Inside Man and Dil Se.

I will dedicate this song to one pendatang tanpa izin from Russia Comrade Ahmedenovich Kerpov for I remember he telling me he loves Hindi songs more than Punkrock numbers( but of course he'll never admit it)

(Che'gu~ tentu hang suka noo...and maybe sis Elviza,Raden Galoh and E Accia too. But Daphne I'm sure is a Hindi film fan.Pak Zawi ,Pak Mior and Pak Zabs? Wak Pinter mungkin hanya suka lagu-lagu Jowo)

ROSSANA.....lets go to AFRICA

They came. They performed. A day late.
Planned for months to see them. But PRU12 came and all schedule went haywire.

My bro Pak MatSalo made great effort to see them. In Surabaya. but it was not to be Mat salo's night. After fighting his way through the fire escape, suffocating in thousands of body odours, the concert in Surabaya was postponed. TOTO did went to Surabaya. Its the band's equipments that didn't arrive with them.
Poor Mat salo. But he got some consolation though. He met TOTO's drummer. Mat Salo called him Simple Simon. Simon took Mat Salo's pic and promised to e-mail MS that pic.

Anyway, here are two of my favourite numbers by TOTO; Rossana and Africa.

Amazing Sanborn

David Sanborn. My favourite alto saxaphonist. Again Abdul Hamed Samad's review and the then radio Ibukota introduced his music to me. Till this day, Sanborn is the best alto sax cats as far as I'm concern. Kenny G? Yelch!!

Here I offer you to listen to the melancholic The Dream and the funky SLAM.

Sanborn!Sanborn!Sanborn!

Birdland( dedicated to Mat Salo)

This entry is dedicated to bro Matsalo and all jazz fans out there.

Birdland.

One of the best songs ever written in jazz history( bro Matsalo can vouch for that). Written by the late Joe Zawinul and recorded by Weather Report with Jaco Pastorious and his magnificent bass licks and stomps.I can never have enough of Birdland. But my first encounter with Birdland was not by Weather Report but by Maynard Ferguson(jazz trumpeteer) and later by the jazz quartet Manhattan Transfer. It was only later that I listen to the original Birdland by WR. It doesn't matter who performed Birdland. The song is just...mindblowing.
