Aku Bukan Pilihan

Iwan Fals(real name Virgiawan Listianto) never fails to excite me. At 47(born 1961) he still writes good songs especially on social and political issues in Indonesia. He is not good looking. His voice is not that sweet R&B crooners like Harvey Malaiholo.
His voice is sharp and husky. His early music is very much influenced by Bob Dylan.
He was not liked by the authorities but was a legend among Indonesian folks in the desa or the blue collar workers and most of his lyrics represents these groups feelings.

The song here is not those kind of songs. This is not a love song too. Its just the feeling of a man telling it to the women he cared for.

Bapak-bapak dan ibu-ibu. Saya persembahkan pada kalian...Pak Iwan Fals!!!!

Salam Doc,

Iwan Fals is my kind of singer and song. And I love the cinematography here, but I don't like the ending of the song. And it is a shame that now, any Malay or Indonesian song that is made into video must be accompanied with lyrics for the convenience of karaoke...I think it degrade the songs. But...you can't have it all, I suppose.

Check out the clip Belum Ada Judul at the menu button lower right hand side.

One thing about Indonesian video clips, they have a story to go along with the songs and yes,the camerawork is fantastic( and cheaper over there).

The accompanying lyrics is an eye sore but you are right,we can't have it all(esp when its free.LOL!)

E:
Pak Iwan was already well known during your days in ITM. I think Zubir Ali have lots of his stuff when he(ZA) was in ITM.

But then, we don't have Iwan Fals or any other Indonesian folk singers albums in Malaysia.

I first heard Iwan Fals about 13 years ago when I went to Medan(rombingan Cik Kiah.LOL!) The supir of our wisata bus had the cassette in and the song terminal came through the speakers. Then came Doel Sumbang's song. I asked the supir for the cassette cover. back in Medan I went to several music stores and bought several Iwan Fals and Doel Sumbang's albums. I'm the fan still(though Doel Sumbang had mellowed down).

During you time in ITM I think it was jazz fusion the in thing ,right?
