NURI oh NURI....

Reference the RMAF Nuri helicopter which went missing with 6 crew members on board.

It is to be noted that the Nuri helicopter, the workhorse of the RMAF, entered service 39 years ago(1968).

It does not have an emergency locator transmitter which would allow rescuers to locate it.

How can one have a decent maintenance program and ready availability of spares for helicopters that are almost 40 years old?

Why should the govt be spending a few billion ringgit to buy a squadron of Sukhoi SU-30MKM fighter jets from Russia when they are not paying attention to the basics - like getting modern helicopters for the armed forces?

Surely, our fighting men and women in uniform deserve better?

In fact, it is distressing to note that, unlike other aircraft in the RMAF fleet, the ill-fated Nuri helicopter is not equipped with an emergency locator transmitter which is designed to send off a distress signal when an aircraft crashes. Instead, Nuri helicopters have to make do with the manual, hand-held search-and-rescue beacon. It is true that all that the survivors of the Nuri crash in Ba’kelalan, Sarawak, three years ago needed were a flare gun and a smoke grenade to attract the attention of a hovering helicopter.

Questions must also be raised over the fact that neither the cockpit voice recorder nor the flight data recorder are deemed essential equipment in the Nuri. Since their installation would have been a help to investigators in determining what happened, an opportunity to improve helicopter safety appears to have been lost.

Apa Menteri Pertahanan Najib kata tentang helikopter NURI. Jadi selamat kah anggota keselamatan kita?

Sapa makan cabai melaka dia pedaih laa

TA,

I really wonder sometimes, what the government is doing. Clearly, their priorities are mixed up.

Loss of young lives like theirs is not something we call service to the nation, it's negligence & faulty machinery.

Dah lah, malas nak membebel pagi2 nih. Good day TA

Salam Dr. Tokasid

I think most of us had expected what kind of answers/statements they will issue during the postmortem.

Najib's statement on NURI will be their guideline.

Its a sad sad situation.

Salam Tokasid,

Besides reviewing the use of the Sikorsky/Nuri, I think the authorities should re-look at how we undertake the search and rescue operations.
The SAR team found the wreckage five days after the crash. From 400 people on the first day, the team grew to 1,000 on Tuesday. More helicopters were mobilised, including a Sea Hawk from the US Navy.
I would have thought we should put more people to canvas the area as soon as it had happened.
Chances are we could have gotten to the victims earlier, giving their parents and loved ones the peace of mind.
Also, irrespective of the cost, all military aircraft should be fixed with emergency locator transmitters, not only those ferrying VVIPs and other new fighters and jets.
I have yet to take military transport on assignment. Given a choice, I rather take the truck instead of a Nuri.
Al-Fatihah for our brave young men and women who had perished in the crash: Kapten Nor Azlan Termuzi, Kapten Nor Intan Asykeen Mohd Arof, Sarjan Udara Khusnizam Ariffin, Sarjan Udara Mohd Azmie Md Yassin, Laskar Udara Kana Saifulnizam Alias ddn Laskar Muda Muhammad Ridzuan Ahmad.

Pak zabs:

You should know better how and why our defence's transportations is in a sad state. I'm sure banyak juga barang lupus kat TLDM.

Kereta kebal yg mengumpul pasir di desert kat Amerika tu ntah apa khabar agaknya. Mungkin dah boleh buat 'lau ayam' kata kawan saya.

Fauziah:

I'm sure in your line of work one day you might have to take the Nuri. Lets hope it doesnt happen. Elok naik truck saja macam you kata tu.

Masaalahnya ,bila terjadi musibah begini baru orang berkuasa nak buat siasatan rapi, nak buat kertas putih etc, etc.

Defense is a major agenda in any country and that should be the upmost priority.

Nuri denagn Hawk ni dah terlalu famous berita kemalangan mereka.

Salam all,
...ahaha..buat 'lau ayam'? nak jugak

Mama drzeze:

Kalau mahal sangat nak pasang alat mengesan GPS lah...

Lanjutan dari earlier comment …
DPM said Nuri be scrapped and replaced with newer helicopters. I am not going to question how or what made the government decide this or who is going to benefit from the international bids to supply these iron birds but alhamdulillah, somebody in the Cabinet is doing his job albeit a little late but better late than never, as the saying goes.
Bukan calang-calang orang yang boleh bawa helicopter because their training is far more extensive that pilots of commercial airliners. Like a commercial helicopter pilot friend of mine said once, “In emergencies, there is no way to go but down. If you survive, you’ll live to tell the story. If not, your story will be told by your family and loved ones.”

Fauziah:

TQ for the update.Alhamdulillah, finally the top people had some sense about the safety of Nuri.
I do not know how long this will take but do hope they will not withold it or call it off.

Cerita ni aku dengaq dari orang kerja air-force sendiri about 8 years dulu. Lepaih 5 minit naik, heli terpaksa patah balik sebab engine trouble. Bila turun, depa pi salvage parts dari NURI lain yang dok parking situ pasai spare part takdak.
Persoalannya, awat orang ataih tak tau ka? Aku rasa depa tau dan depa pun sayang kat anggota depa tapi bila mintak kat lagi ataih, tak dapat macam mana. Sementara tu kita kira lah berapa lagi nak jatuh dan berapa lagi nak terkorban.
